Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband is Amazingly Faster Compared to Smart Broadband
5.05.2009
Sun Broadband Wireless that I'm now using here at home is faster than Smart Broadband (canopy type) that we are presently using at work. Here's the actual speedtest that I conducted yesterday for my Sun Broadband Wireless and today for our Smart Broadband connection in our office.
Sun Broadband speedtest
Smart Broadband speedtest
My only limitation is that I don't have the right equipment and facilities to test simultaneously both connections to really post here an accurate report. But it is suffice to say that my surfing experience is getting much better as compared to when I was using SmartBro in my workplace. You may also want to read another review from here: http://www.electronicpulp.net/2009/04/23/sun-broadband-wireless-wireless-broadband-service-review/. Check it out.

I notice that you have a lot of blogs about Sun Cellular Network. Honestly, are you a worker from Sun or a dealer for Sun Network?
In your link, you presented 2 speedtests comparing sun broadband wireless and smartbro.
But I notice that the TIME of the speedtest for smartbro (2:52AM GMT = 10:52AM Philippine time) is different from the time you tested sun broadband wireless (2:04PM GMT = 10:04PM Philippine time).
Could you present a speedtest for both SmartBroadband and SunBroadbandWireless using the same time and speedtest server (eg: Metro Manila, Quezon City or all the available Philippine Servers)? Better if you could also present the other networks using also ONE SPEEDTEST SERVER, ONE AREA, ONE COMPUTER, all at the same time frame at least, again … honestly.
Speedtest could actually present speeds much higher than the true speed but at least we could compare the different network servers using the same time and ISP speedtest server.
In my area right now, I am using SunBroadbandWireless and it became extremely slow during the past 3 months. It has been more than 2 months that I am trying to follow up SunBroadband to upgrade the system in my area but to no avail. I am still searching for another network that could be very much better. I haven’t experienced this kind of slow connections since PREPAID DIALUP INTERNET.
I am already paranoid that they could have really slowed down the 2mbps package of SBW for us to avail the 3mbps SBW package. When did the 3mbps package of SBW came out to the market? Although a major factor I think is that my area is really congested with SBW users and an upgrade of the system is still not being addressed to.
Do you know where I could hack and convert to Open Line the Sun Modem and Sun Router (which was only used twice) that I purchased so that I could use it for other networks?
Lucky you, you have a good signal for SBW in your area if it is really true. But that is not the same with my area for SunBroadband. I could only surf easily during off peak hours.
All I need is a stable at least 40kbps to surf easily. If my connection is less than 40kbps, it is really extremely difficult to surf.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Willie Domingo
Dear Mr. Domingo,
Thank you very much for your interest in this post. I'm not working or in any way professionally connected to Sun Cellular. I'm just a mere satisfied Sun Cellular subscriber (for both postpaid mobile and Sun broadband).
Much as I would want to present a simultaneous speed test for both network, I couldn't possibly do so since I'm leaving my Sun Broadband at home and use the SmartBro connection in the office when I'm reporting for work. I probably need to bring my Sun Broadband at work so I can perform the speed test for both network all in the same time frame. When it's done, I'll post it here in this site.
Unfortunately, there are spots in Metro Manila where Sun Broadband is slow, like Brgy. Plainview in Mandaluyong where I used to live. Here in Makati that I presently reside, Sun Broadband connection is better. I'm afraid that I may lose the good Internet connection once I transfer my residence to Floodway in Pasig City this midst of August. I can only hope that the Internet connection will still be the same.
I think Sun Network already marketed their 3.6Mbps speed since from the very start of their campaign.
A "techie" friend suggested me that the Huawei device can be hacked if a firmware will be available for download at the manufacturer's website. I haven't confirm it yet. The same friend also suggested me that a possibility is that the Sun router is not "locked" to the network, thus it can be used with similar wireless networks (i.e. Smart Broadband and Globe tattoo). Anyhow, I still have to confirm these claims. I haven't implemented any testing procedure yet (and didn't have the appropriate equipment to do such).
Maybe I'm just lucky with my present location for now. I can only hope for the best.
I'll post another speed test when I can perform it. Try to visit here again for some time.
Again, thank you very much....
yeah! busted!!!i ma SBW user too. but pls be fair..
Yes, that's fair. Please see more of it from this link: http://www.suncellulartips.net/2009/08/smart-bro-vs-sun-broadband-speedtest.html.
Thank you very much for reading...

sun broadband is a crap. they say that if you have full bars on your network, you'll be able to enjoy the speed of this isp, but unfortunately, its not!!! my speed haven't reached at 1 mbps since the first day i availed of this post paid internet from sun..now im locked up and dont have any choice but to finish the 3 year contract before i switched to another isp!!!your post is a big joke..i been in makati, qc, mandaluyong, and even in paranaque, and i still have the .28 mbps download speed of this stupid network! if you're going to blame the slow connection to my laptop, i have intel core i7 processor 3gb memory and running 7500 rpm, with 500gb of storage..network congestion??stupid reason!!its just sun broadband really sucks and the slowest isp in philippines so far
