Sun Cellular CTU Subscribers-Turned-Crank-Callers
7.12.2009
For those who are clueless, CTU stands for Call and Text Unlimited, a call and text unlimited plan offered solely by Sun Cellular. As for the word crank call, it may not be exactly the word to describe it but it is already enough for me to know that the generosity of this call and text unlimited had fallen to abuse by a few, if not many irresponsible subscribers. I and my wife were never exempted to be victimized by those I'd like to call here "crank caller," or more appropriately, people-who-have-all-the-time-to-waste. I'm disclosing the number of those two most recent callers who disturbed us. That's my only way of taking revenge for the annoyance they've caused me.
09226879164
This number called up my wife's number early in the morning today (Sunday, past 6am) while we were still in bed. We were still half-awake but my wife had to answer the call as us couple is not used to turning down or ignoring calls. The following is how the conversation went on. I'll refer the caller here by his number.
My wife: Hello. Good morning...
The call was inaudible in a few seconds.
My wife: Hello! Sino 'to?
09226879164: Si Angelica.
My wife: Anong Angelica? Lalaki ka naman eh.
09226879164: Si Angelica, hinahanap ko.
My wife: Wala pong Angelica dito. I think you've dialed a wrong number.
09226879164: Sino 'to?
My wife: Sino naman 'to?
09226879164: Ako yong naunang nagtanong.
My wife: Ikaw yung tumawag, so it's just right that you identify yourself first.
09226879164: Anong pangalan mo?
My wife: Ay, hindi na kailangan. Hindi naman kita kilala eh. Sige, ba-bye na.
After saying that, my wife hung up the phone. In less than two seconds, the same number called up again. My wife picked up the phone again.
My wife: Hello!
09226879164: Ba't mo ako binabaan ng phone?
My wife: Eh, hindi naman kita kilala at wala naman dito yung hinahanap mo, kaya wala ng dahilan para mag-usap tayo. Bye na.
She hung up the phone for the second time. The caller was persistent. By that time, I was already wide awake. I asked her to give the phone to me but my wife told me to just keep quite and she would manage everything.
She gave him her last warning, "Alam mo, nakakaabala ka na. Useless naman ang pagtawag mo at hindi ko nga po kilala ang taong hinahanap n'yo. Kung tatawag ka pa ulit, hindi ko na sasagutin ang tawag mo." After saying that, my wife hung up the phone and turn it off.
It didn't end up there though. While inside the church, the same caller dialed to my wife's cellphone number again. We're just fortunate that it was set to silent mode so it was just vibrating inside her bag. My wife checked who the caller was and recognized the number right away. She ignored the call. The mass was ongoing anyway.
In the evening while we were inside the grocery area in SM Megamall, the same number called up again. That time, my wife picked it up. It was the same guy who called up early in the morning. "Pwede bang makipagkuwentuhan?"
"I'm sorry. I'm not interested. Pwede ba, huwag na kayong tumawag?" She hung up the phone.
We were already onboard a passenger FX going home and 09226879164 was still calling. My wife decided to just ignore it. She can't just turn off the phone otherwise she would also miss important calls. All she can do is just to filter callers. After all, all of her contacts are saved in the phonebook. Even until this time I and my wife are inside the Internet cafe checking email and writing this blog entry, her phone was still vibrating with call from 09226879164 cellphone number.
09236071639
Incidentally, it was also a Sunday (July 5) that I received a call from 09236071639. I was inside the church with my wife. The caller dialed to my number that only my family members know. I didn't set it to Silent mode so when the phone started to ring, I didn't have choice other than to answer the unidentified caller. "Hello, si Analy ba 'to?" It was a woman on the other end. I told her that I am not Analy and that she dialed a number different than what she intend to call. She hung up the phone. I thought she won't be calling again. After a few minutes, the same caller called up again. Foolish me, I didn't set the phone to Silent. Actually, I have two phones - one for business and personal and the other one for family use. I put the "business phone" to silent mode but not the "family use phone." It is that phone that the strange caller dialed. I answered the phone and she was still looking for the same person Analy. I told her again that I'm not Analy and she should not call again. After that, I turned off the phone.
When I turned on the phone later of that day. Several text messages appeared in my SMS inbox asking why I turned off the phone for her and asking if pwede ba daw makipag- - in her own word, callmate. I just ignored the messages.
The same number called up again last Thursday and I didn't pick it up. It didn't call up again up until this writing.

Update:
09226879164 called up again this morning. I answered the call in my wife's behalf and was able to talk to the guy. He said he was looking for Angelica. I told him the person that she's looking for is not with us and that he dialed the wrong number. Before I could finish what I was saying, he hung up the phone...
Do NTC have provisions for this kind of problem?
I don't know exactly but I guess there's none :(

Baka naman kasi kung kanikanino mo binibigay cel no. mo
The same thing is happening to me right now. I just got a Sun SIM last week. And this certain number keeps calling me. The first time he called, I answered it thinking it was a friend I haven't saved in my contacts yet. I guess answering the call was a big mistake. He keeps calling me now and it's draining my battery. I just ignore his calls but he just won't stop! It's very irritating!!! I'm currently looking for ways to block his number. May I ask if you know how? Or does Sun Cellular offer to block a certain number from calling you? And how do you manage these kinds of callers? Sobrang nakakainis na po kasi talaga. :(
