Smart Bro vs. Sun Broadband Speedtest Result
8.25.2009
Last May of this year, I posted an entry to compare the speed of Smart Bro and Sun Broadband. But it was not a real comparison in a since that the test was not being run in the same time frame. A reader asked me to perform the speed test simultaneously but didn't have the chance to do it right away since I don't bring my laptop computer to work. This morning, I brought my laptop with me as I need to do a few things that involve using my laptop. So, I also took the chance of running speed tests for two wireless Internet service for speed comparison purposes. This is the detail of the test result so far:

Here's another speed test result using this site's SpeedtestMini:
Other details
The photo above shows my speed testing environment.
Smart Bro speed test was performed on a 4.0GHz desktop computer (the computer
to the left) which is running on Windows XP Professional Edition. The Sun Broadband speed test was performed on my 1.3GHz laptop
computer (the laptop computer to the right) running on Windows 2000 operating system. The test is being done between
11:00am and 12:00nn. My test site location is in Shaw Bldvd. Pasig near Kapitolyo.

Sunbroadband sucks!!!!!!!!
sinungaling!
I agree, mabagal ang suncellular broadband. 2MBPS? Umasa ka pa! tsk!
@ Anonymous 1: For what reason?
@ Anonymous 2: I'm not lying! I've shown the screen capture right here in this post and is it not enough proof?
@ Anonymous 3: Anything can slow down, not only Sun Broadband but also Globe tattoo and SmartBro. While you can't do anything when it's getting slow during peak hour, there are also ways how you can improve the performance of your Internet speed. YOu may want to read it from here: http://www.electronicpulp.net/2009/07/13/how-to-speed-up-your-sun-broadband-wireless-sbw-mobile-broadband-connection/.
Note: Next time, I'll not entertain anonymous comments...
Sun Cellular is truly amazing!
Natz, I agree...
Try testing your connection against the server at Paranuaque at Speedtest. You'll get a faster and more accurate result. I did get a 2.20 mbps for my Sun Broadband. The test and screenshot at http://chopsueyrice.blogspot.com/
SBW is good if used inside Robinsons malls. Outside their "homecourt", connection may be very poor. Using SBW at home, I experienced unlimited waiting time for my homepage to load.
@Mr Flores,
can you post your speedtest results between SBW and SmartBro using : 1) same computer, 2)same server location and distance to server? It looks like your images is a comparison of an orange and an apple.
SBW is also "choosy". I myself have SmartBro and SBW, both prepaid, I would say SmartBro is far better.
Side note:
Before I bought SBW-prepaid, I asked some booths people of Sun on what WEB BROWSER is best for their product, they answered me with "Sir, basta Pentium 4 at Windows XP or 7". I wrote a feedback to Sun's website about this.
I purchased a SUN Broadband USB wireless Internet access when I was in the Philippines a month ago. I knew it was going to be slow. I wasn't really expecting speeds like 4.5Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload like I have on my iPhone in the US. But to my surprise, I was only getting 5kps and occasionally none at all like it's disconnected or something. 5kbps is not even dial-up speed!
No wonder why they are metering it by how much time you are using it. When I first learned about this, I thought that was odd. Usually, you are metered by the amount of data used and not by the amount of time you used it. I guess that explains it because they don't really care what speed you're connected to (even zero) as long as you're using it, you get to pay.
It was just a waste of money.
