Free Nokia Ovi Maps for turn-by-turn, offline access & travel guides: Useful for both pedestrians and motorists alike
3.16.2010
Nokia announced its navigation system named OVI Maps last January 22, 2010 as step to establish the brand's presence in the market. OVI Maps is not only available in 74 different countries including the Philippines, but it is also free. You only need to visit Nokia website where the program can be downloaded for free. Ovi Maps includes voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers and comes in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries giving you the largest global coverage*.
Ovi Maps will be preloaded on all new compatible Nokia handsets from March 2010, complete with mapping data specific to the country of sale. So, buy a phone in the UK and you’ll get European mapping preloaded; buy it in the US and you’ll get North American data. Of course you’re also free to add in worldwide mapping yourself – which is, again, free – either directly via the handset’s data or WiFi connection, or side-loaded from a computer**.
Initial compatible devices:
- Nokia N97 mini,
- Nokia 5800 XpressMusic,
- Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition
,
- Nokia E52,
- Nokia E55,
- Nokia E72,
- Nokia 5230,
- Nokia 6710 Navigator,
- Nokia 6730 classic,
- Nokia X6
The latest version of Ovi Maps includes:
- Driving and walking turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries
- Real-time traffic information in 10 countries
- Maps for 180 total countries around the globe
- Support for 46 different languages
- Text-to-speech notifications
- 6,000 3D points of interest
- Third-party content such as ViaMichelin and Lonely Planet
- Location-aware social networking
- Maps can be preloaded
- Weather service
Coming from a trip in Bulacan yesterday of which I was having a hard time finding for the city hall of Meycauayan, I realized how much useful this technology to me. Of course, not only in the navigation in the provinces but also while riding my bicycle urban treading in every nook and cranny in Manila Chinatown.
I can't hardly wait to have one of this kind of phone. I want the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition...
